Mystical Odyssey – The Shakta Traditions of Bhubaneswar Destinations Covered: • Vaital Deul (Chamunda Temple) • Chausati Yogini Temple Practical Details: Duration: 3 hours | Distance: approx. 1.5 km Requirements: Comfortable sandals, modest clothing, water bottle, light shawl for temple entry About the Trail: This walk uncovers Bhubaneswar’s Shakta heritage — the worship of the Divine Feminine in her fierce, protective, and nurturing forms. The Vaital Deul, with its Khakhara-style roof and Tantric imagery, anchors this mystical journey. The Chausath Yogini Temple at Hirapur, near Bhubaneswar in Odisha, is a rare and remarkable example of a yogini shrine. Built in the 9th century CE (around 865 AD) by Queen Hiradevi of the Bhaumakar dynasty, it is one of only four surviving circular “64–Yogini” temples in India. Itinerary: • 2:30 PM – Assembly at Ekamra Haat • 2:45 PM – Travel to Vaital Deul; introduction to Shakta iconography • 3:30 PM – Travel to Chausati Yogini Temple • 4:15 PM – Reflection circle, photography, closing tea session
